STORY:
This drawing is inspired by a walk during my artist in residence in 2024 at Studio Kura in Itoshima, with Benoit Aupoix . We took the local train to Niji-no-Matsubara, one of Japan's three greatest pine groves located in neighbouring Karatsu city. Spontaneously we decided to walk to Karatsu castle and on the way we encountered a local shrine.
As usual I work from my memories, assisted by my own photographs. My work is never a one on one representation of the scene encountered (in this case the entry to a local shrine) but my own visualisation of a specific memory in time.
